Obama says no to Death Star

There are definitely benefits to having a nerd in the White House, as this response to a petition that the U.S. build a Death Star proves: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/response/isnt-petition-response-youre-looking

Apparently the Obama administration is willing to consider any petition, if it has enough signatures, and the rationale for rejecting this one is brilliant: Why would we spend countless taxpayer dollars on a Death Star with a fundamental flaw that can be exploited by a one-man starship?

Unfortunately, the administration still is very tepid in it’s support of manned space exploration, so despite the cleverness of this response, I’m still waiting for that mission to Mars in the lifetime.
