It’s an exciting day for me and my venerable (2008) MacPro. I’m bringing the memory up to 8GB, adding a terabyte drive and upgrading to Mountain Lion. Currently downloading the 4.37GB upgrade (thank goodness I increased my broadband speed).

The old girl’s been sluggish of late, mostly I’m sure the result of a 500 GB hard drive that was formatted in 2008 and has been operating continuously since then, but also the result of only having 4GB of ram. Now if you think that ought to be enough, the other day I realized I had Safari, Word, PhotoShop, Illustrator, BBEdit and Fetch all running at the same time, not to mention Windows Vista running in Parallels.

I admit this may only buy me another year on this Mac, but Apple (Tim Cook) said there would be a major upgrade to the MacPro line this year. Sadly, I may switch to an iMac finally, but I think a major MacPro upgrade will be the motivation to get an new computer.

OK, maybe two more years, unless those rumors of Apple dumping Intel are true.
